Embracing Change

We must embrace and affect CHANGE now!

Since the beginning of 2020, we have had to respond to a global health pandemic and accept the resulting changes to our lives; staying at home, with or without a job, or still working and facing the challenges that comes with getting sick or worrying about catching the virus and bringing it home to our loved ones. Some have dealt with these challenges all alone without their regular support and many have been blessed with their family and friends right by their side.

This global challenge has brought forth global change to our economy and life patterns, requiring us to find new ways to manage the emotional and social stresses resulting from this pandemic. Change is here and we must embrace it.

Moreover, during the past few weeks, we have seen masses protesting racial and economic inequities, demanding real and lasting CHANGE. In this moment in history, we must affect the right CHANGE.

The pandemic has highlighted the discriminatory impact of health threats on minorities and those with limited economical means…crying out the injustice that is perpetuated when the opportunity for economic advancement is curtailed. We will have to create a new normal as we will not be returning to the past. We all know that the only constant is CHANGE, so let’s make the right change now.

The time has come for all of us, collectively and collaboratively, to affect a sustainable social and economic CHANGE that elevates human dignity and potential. To do so we must ensure everyone, but especially those who have suffered from this injustice, has access to the four fundamental rights and privileges of advanced societies:

  1. Housing that is safe and sustainable as a shelter
  2. Food that is reliable and nutritious
  3. Healthcare that is easily accessible and affordable and independent of employment
  4. Free Education that provides opportunity for real learning and accumulation of knowledge and skills needed for self- actualization as well as becoming a productive member of the society

Once we have established the changes to the current systems to provide these basic needs, then we can focus on the secondary but just as important elements of intellectual and economic contributions by the disadvantaged members of our society. To do so, we must:

  1. Provide access to jobs with decent pay and careers that are secure with growth potential
  2. Facilitate pride of ownership and building assets and wealth over time
  3. Create financial support / investment systems that allow minorities to start and expand their own small business to ensure long-term independence

These seven steps toward building a social and economic system that not only promotes equality, but also environmental and economic justice is essential for our peaceful and harmonious coexistence. This will be accomplished when those who need more help to achieve the same level of access receive the additional help they need on a timely manner. To achieve this, we must Embrace and Affect real CHANGE.
